Acto, software vendor for the installation and construction industry, uses Thinkwise’s low-code platform to develop the future ERP software. The company chose this new development strategy to provide a model-driven and future-based foundation for flexible customizable ERP software.
Acto develops and supplies a complete package of ERP software for project and service management for companies in the construction industry. According to Willem Verhoef, co-owner and director of the company, the rapidly changing market and increasing digitalization were important reasons to go with Thinkwise. “I expect ERP systems to change as much as in the past twenty years over the next five years,” says Verhoef. “ERP systems need to be more flexibly integrated with other systems, handle data from sensor technology, provide predictive maintenance and should also be user-friendly. This calls for a new development environment. We therefore concluded a partnership with Thinkwise to realize a next-generation ERP platform, with a lot of functional flexibility, ease of use and customization possibilities. Thinkwise gives us the means to create the most perfect ERP software. ”
With its low-code development platform, Thinkwise develops business software for its customers, but it also increasingly provides partners with Acto. According to Robert van der Linden, co-founder and CEO of Thinkwise, more and more software vendors are making the transition to low-code development today. “Software vendors have a recurring problem, that their product has technologically aging over the years and become less flexible,” says Van der Linden. “The software must then be redesigned. This problem solves you with low-code development. You disconnect technology from functionality and then focus on developing functional models and interfaces. This is a much more sustainable and more flexible development model.
Through collaboration with Thinkwise, Acto now has a development environment that allows the company to develop three to five times faster and at lower costs than traditional methods. The low-code and model-driven approach also makes the resulting software much more flexible. “There are many low-code development tools available,” says Verhoef. “The downside is that they are usually only suitable for front-end applications, such as apps. Thinkwise distinguishes itself by supporting the back end with a fully managed development environment for both the client, web and mobile. Thinkwise also invests with us in new products and testing of new technology, including virtual reality and artificial intelligence. We can now develop many times faster, at significantly lower costs than before.
